Once you receive your Massachusetts Basic Firearms Safety Course certificate, you can fill out a MA firearms license application. This application is for anyone looking to obtain a firearm within Massachusetts, whether you’re interested in a Firearms Identification Card (FID) or an unrestricted License to Carry. This application and the certificate from our safety course can be dropped off at your local police department. The firearms authority in your hometown will review the application and reach out to schedule an interview. In addition to the cost of the Massachusetts Basic Firearms Safety Course, there’s a firearms application fee that needs to be paid to your police department when going for your gun license.

Receive Your Firearms Permit in Massachusetts

The steps to receiving your Massachusetts gun license include:

1. Completing the MA Basic Firearms Safety Course
2. Submitting the safety certificate and firearms license application to your local police department
3. Completing an in-person interview with your local firearms licensing authority and paying the fee. Note that licensing processing may take up to 90 days.
